How to get more Google reviews for your restaurant, the right way

More reviews help guests choose you and help you show up in local search. Here’s how to ask for them without breaking Google’s rules.

When someone searches for a place to eat nearby, your Google reviews are often the first thing they see. Recent, genuine reviews help guests decide, and they’re one of the signals Google uses for local results. The good news: most happy guests are glad to leave one if you ask at the right moment and make it easy.

First, the rules

Google’s review policies are strict, and breaking them can get reviews removed. Stay on the right side:

  • Ask every guest the same way. Don’t only ask the guests you think are happy, and don’t send unhappy guests somewhere else first. That’s called review gating, and Google doesn’t allow it.
  • Don’t offer anything in return. No discounts, free items or entries into a draw for a review.
  • Don’t write reviews yourself, or ask staff, friends or family to.

Make it one tap

The biggest reason guests don’t leave a review is friction. In your Google Business Profile, find the option to ask for reviews and copy your review link. It opens the review box directly. Then put that link where guests already are:

  • A QR code at the counter and on receipts.
  • The page guests see after they order online.
  • Your follow-up emails or texts, if you send them.

Ask at the right moment

Ask when the experience is fresh: right after pickup, or as the check is paid. Keep it simple and personal: “If you enjoyed it, a Google review really helps us.”

Reply to reviews, good and bad

Thank people by name for good reviews. For bad ones, reply calmly, apologize for the experience, and offer to make it right offline. Future guests read your replies as much as the reviews.

How Y3ll0 helps

With Y3ll0, you add your Google review link once in the dashboard. Once a pickup order is complete, the guest’s order page asks them to review you on Google, the same way for every guest. Guests can also leave verified reviews on your own website, tied to a real order. See Reviews.
